Privacy Policy for Faunda

Updated: July 18, 2026

Faunda is a learning game for teens, generally ages 13-17. This policy explains what data Faunda collects, how it is used, who processes it, and how a learner or guardian can request deletion.

Faunda is operated by Lead The Way Limited ("Lead The Way", "we", "us", or "our").

1. Who this policy covers

This policy applies to:

  • Children and teens who play Faunda
  • Parents and guardians who support or manage a learner
  • Teachers, schools, clubs, and program administrators using Faunda
  • Visitors using the Faunda website or Android app

The Google Play launch is for learners age 13 or older. Before guest play or account creation, the person starting the session must confirm the learner meets that minimum age and that a parent, guardian, or authorized school has approved the child's use. Parents and guardians can contact us about a child's data at any time.

2. Data we collect

Account and profile data

Creating an account collects:

  • The learner's first and last name
  • A chosen or generated username, internal account ID, role, and selected avatar
  • A password stored only as a one-way password hash
  • An optional email address (the learner's or a parent's), used for account recovery
  • An optional date of birth, added later from My Profile if the learner chooses
  • Confirmation that the learner is at least 13, has parent, guardian, or authorized-school approval, and accepts the Terms and Privacy Policy

Names, email addresses, and dates of birth are never shown to other players, never appear on leaderboards, and are not attached to AI model requests. Guest play collects none of these: it creates an account with a generated username and non-contact internal identifier, and a guest provides details only if the guest later saves the account. Guest data can be deleted from My Profile.

Optional Founder Card research questions

The Founder Card in My Profile asks optional questions: gender, disability, school curriculum, education level, urban or rural location type, region, and district. Before anything is saved, the app explains in place why we ask and requires the learner (with parent, guardian, or school approval) to actively tick a consent box.

  • Every question is optional and offers "prefer not to say" choices
  • Answering is never required to play, and answers never affect gameplay difficulty
  • Completing the card earns a small in-game bonus, which is stated up front
  • Answers can be viewed, changed, or cleared from My Profile at any time
  • Disability information is treated as sensitive data and is protected accordingly

We use these answers, together with names and dates of birth where provided, for research and product improvement: understanding which young founders Faunda reaches and making the game teach entrepreneurship and creativity better for children. Research results are reported only in aggregated or de-identified form.

Gameplay and user-created data

  • Startup ideas, question answers, choices, and pitch responses
  • Scores, virtual capital, trust, progress, streaks, badges, and leaderboard results
  • Business canvas content and other learning outputs
  • Use of hints, team members, and other game features
  • Free campaign participation and competition results

Public leaderboards use generic labels such as "Founder #1" and show only rank and game score or virtual capital. They do not publish usernames, account IDs, startup ideas, or activity timestamps. Learners should still avoid real names or private information in a username or startup idea.

AI processing and safety reports

Faunda sends a learner's startup idea, a fixed general reading-age setting, recent answer performance, and virtual game state to an AI provider to validate the idea and generate age-appropriate questions and feedback. We do not attach the learner's profile, exact age, date of birth, business canvas, account name, account email, password, or account ID to the AI model request. Email addresses, phone numbers, links, social handles, and instruction-manipulation attempts in startup ideas are blocked locally before a model request. Requests disable provider response storage, although the provider may retain limited abuse monitoring records under its contract and published data controls.

If a user reports inappropriate AI content, we collect the report category, optional comment, reported content and its game context, reporter account ID, and technical details needed to review the report and prevent repeat problems. Generated text also passes a child-safety check before display, and report actions are available on generated questions and feedback.

Technical, security, and analytics data

  • IP address, browser or WebView user agent, request path, method, and request ID
  • App interactions, page views, game events, level, and question number
  • Browser or WebView identifiers and basic diagnostic information
  • Session cookies and local preferences needed for sign-in, recovery, sound, and reminders

The Google Play mobile build does not include Google Analytics. The hosted website may use Google Analytics to understand aggregate website usage and performance. Our own security and game-event logs record the account ID when a user is signed in.

3. Data we do not request

Faunda does not request access to:

  • Contacts, call history, SMS messages, microphone, camera, or photo library
  • Precise GPS location
  • Android advertising ID for advertising
  • Payment card details or mobile-money PINs

The Google Play launch is free. It does not accept paid game or campaign entry, offer cash-value prizes, or show third-party advertising.

4. Why we use data

We use data to:

  • Create accounts, authenticate users, and preserve game progress
  • Run the game, personalize difficulty, and generate learning feedback
  • Provide leaderboards, free campaigns, streaks, badges, and account support
  • Review AI-content reports and keep the service safe for young users
  • Prevent abuse, investigate errors, secure accounts, and enforce our Terms
  • Understand usage and improve accessibility, reliability, and learning outcomes
  • Conduct research, using consented optional profile and Founder Card answers, to improve how Faunda teaches entrepreneurship and creativity to young learners
  • Support a school or teacher administering an authorized learning program

We do not sell personal data and do not use it for targeted advertising.

5. Who processes or receives data

We disclose data only as needed for the purposes above:

  • Hosting, database, logging, and infrastructure providers that operate Faunda
  • OpenAI or our configured AI gateway for idea review and generated learning content
  • Google Analytics for hosted website analytics when enabled, not for the Play app
  • Authorized schools, teachers, or program staff for learners in their program
  • Authorities or professional advisers when required by law or necessary for safety

Service providers may process data only to provide contracted services and must protect it. Data may be processed outside Tanzania where a provider operates its infrastructure.

6. Children's privacy

The Google Play launch is limited to learners age 13 or older. We require age confirmation and confirmation of parent, guardian, or authorized-school approval before guest play or account creation. We do not show behavioral advertising and exclude Google Analytics from the Play app. Optional research questions are always disclosed in place, require an active opt-in, and can be declined or cleared without losing any gameplay.

A parent or guardian may ask us to:

  • Confirm whether we hold data about their child
  • Provide access to or correct that data
  • Delete the child's account and associated data
  • Stop optional processing where applicable

We may verify the account and the requesting adult's authority before acting.

7. Security

We use encrypted HTTPS connections, password hashing, access controls, rate limits, and audit logging to protect data. No service can guarantee absolute security, so users should keep passwords private and report suspected account misuse promptly.

8. Retention and deletion

Account and gameplay data is kept while an account is active and as needed to provide the service. Security, diagnostic, and AI-safety records are kept only for as long as reasonably needed to investigate abuse, protect users, meet legal obligations, and maintain the service.

Users can delete an account from My Profile in Faunda. Account deletion removes the profile, game sessions, answers, progress, account-linked generated questions, campaign participation, and AI-content reports. Identifying payment-provider details from any historical pre-launch test records are erased or de-identified.

We may retain limited de-identified transaction totals and security events when necessary for fraud prevention, legal compliance, or protecting children. Backups may retain deleted data temporarily until they are overwritten through the normal backup cycle.

A user or guardian who cannot access the app can use our public account deletion page to submit a request.

9. Your choices

  • Play as a guest without providing a name, email, password, or profile details
  • Leave the optional email and date of birth blank, or clear them later
  • Decline the optional Founder Card research questions, or clear answers anytime
  • Choose a non-identifying avatar from My Profile
  • Decline notification permission without losing core gameplay
  • Request access, correction, or deletion by contacting us

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when Faunda or its data practices change. We will update the date above and provide an appropriate notice in the app or website for material changes.
